Week 97 - God Knows Us All

Tuesday, November 24, 2015

Hey Everyone,

I don't have a lot to tell you from this week, but I just wanted to say that God is aware of us all! We have been teaching a guy that I met on the bus 8 months ago. I ran into him again this last month and he got really mad at me for being a missionary.  Then he realized we had met 8 months prior.   After that he was nice!  It humbled him a little bit and we started talking.   I talked him into meeting with me and my comp and since then he has just gotten so awesome!
We have helped him overcome so many things in his life and he is now very thankful for this gospel and wants to be baptized.  Its just so great to hear and see other peoples life stories!

I have a testimony that God is always aware of us even when at times we feel he isnt or when we aren't aware of him.  In Alma, Ammon teaches, "Now my brethren, we see that God is mindful of every people, whatsoever land they may be in; yea, he numbereth his people, and his bowels of mercy are over all the earth. Now this is my joy, and my great thanksgiving; yea, and I will give thanks unto my God forever. Amen."

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Week 96 - One more month!

Wednesday, November 18, 2015

Hello Everyone,

I only have one month left.  There are so many things I love about my mission, I can't believe it's almost over.  I'm going to miss the people of Indonesia so much, they are amazing!  We've had a great week and taught some good lessons.  I've been on splits with Elder Davies several times.

If I had to describe what it feels like to walk down the streets in Jakarta it would be like this. Cigarette smoke will always make me feel at home here, because so many people smoke and the traffic!  It's cool just because I can look at everyone around me and think about what their life is and who they are.  I don't know, is that weird?  The smell of open sewer systems just make me smile cause it's like no one cares lol ... the people sitting on the road just chilling is another thing that that is pretty funny.  This place is unexplainable!

That's about all from Indonesia for this week!  Hope you all stay safe and I will see you soon!

Week 94 - The sights and sounds of Jakarta

Monday, November 2, 2015

Hey Guys,
This week was another normal week nothing too crazy. We had a lot of lessons and we are still working with one of our good investigators. That’s been going well, but he has a lot of things to work on first, but that’s okay.

We have been teaching the majority of people from off the bus and other public places where people talk to us first.  So like every 10 people that talk to us maybe 2 of them actually learn a few times with us. We got a good member referral and we went and taught them.  It’s a less active, part member family who has some good potential so we will see where that will go!
Typical bus ride...

So there really wasn't much to go over with you.  This week it’s pretty hot here in Jakarta. Even though it says it’s raining here on all your guys’ apps and stuff, it’s not.  It hasn't rained in like 7 months! And its hotttttttt ..

Oh so here’s a story I remember  from this week.  We met a guy and he said he had 29 people from Papua that wanted to learn about our church and we were so happy and pumped to teach them.   So we got all this material ready and we waited for them at the church. He called and said he was late. No problem.  So we wait another hour for them all ... still nothing.   He calls and said he was late in traffic... but was coming. Okay so we decide to wait again and were waiting again and call him after another hour and he said he’s close ... after that he never answered his phone again.   We wasted a whole day waiting. Cause later that evening we had an appt at the church again. And we couldn't be late and at that time in the day traffic is too bad to go out ... man it was a bummer!

Very poor area of Jakarta

We got to bring an investigator to church though.  He lives about an hour and a half away, so we had to wake up extra early and go pick him up and then take him back but he really loved church and I think he really has potential to be baptized.  It’s awesome!  He lives out in the village and he is 15 . Never went to school and can barely read just a really humble kid! He works at the street market every day to help his family with money... he has a great story .

Hope you all are well.  The fires in Indonesia are bad right now.  The missionaries in Medan have to wear masks and stuff.  We aren’t affected much, but you can see from the pictures above all the pollution.

Have a great week!

Week 93 - Finding Answers

Monday, October 26, 2015

Hey guys,

Another week down in the books!  We are all settled in our new house.  This week we got a lot of good lessons in.  We taught a great lesson to one of our investigators. He was in tears and was thanking us because we were able to answer his questions.  These were questions no one else has been able to answer.  He was so happy! He wants to get baptized this next month but is always so busy with work.  I really hope it happens.  He always tells us how much he can feel the Holy Spirit within us and it's really awesome!!
Elder Jones and Elder Davies
We started the mission together and we'll end the mission together!

I went on a split with Elder Davies and that was really fun.  We went and proselyted and taught 3 lessons.  We got a bunch of contacts and it was a great day.   He was my first companion in the MTC and we always have a really awesome time together! We put in a lot of good work this week and hopefully we will get results in return.

I taught English class this week as well and I’m everyone’s favorite English teacher. ha-ha.  It's funny, I feel like the students always have a great time in my class and I really enjoy teaching.
I caught this little guy
Typical little Indonesian store

52 days until I return home!  I can't believe it's almost over.  I hope everyone stays safe this week!  Remember to read the Book of Mormon and say your prayers and the Lord will bless you with the answers you are seeking.

Week 92 - Ron Burgundy speaks at Zone Conference

Wednesday, October 21, 2015

Hi Everyone,
We have a few new investigators.  Zone Conference was good. Me, Elder Davies and Elder Green from my group did all the translating.  It's funny cause I always do my sportscaster Ron Burgundy voice!  LOL
This week we spent the whole week without a/c so that was awesome  :/  We sweat bullets all night cause it’s so humid!  Elder Green, Davies and I spent the Zone Meeting night on the roof of the house reflecting on the mission and telling funny stories. I’m going to miss those guys!

Dinner with the Mitchell’s

For P-day today we're going to play bad mitten... its gay and I'm mad about it, but oh well.

I forgot to bring my journal so I can't tell you everything that happened this week.  It took 2 days to move houses and 3 days at Zone Conference.  Here are some more pics.

The new house is nice.  It’s been a weird week.  We are in a major drought here, it's bad!  It hasn’t rained in Jakarta in like 5 months ...Since May!  We met some good new people to teach this week and hopefully they will turn out!

Stay safe and we'll talk to you next week!

Week 91 - Zone Conference

Monday, October 12, 2015

Hi guys,

This is going to be really short because we are moving to a different house today.  We will all still be living together, so that's good.

We had Zone Conference this week and that was great.  The work in the mission is moving along.

Love you all,

Elder Jones
